Wishing You a Restful Weekend

What plans do you have for the weekend? After a pretty hectic week on my end, I’m especially looking forward to a little downtime — well, mostly! This weekend, Toby is celebrating his 15th birthday, which feels like it was just yesterday when he was a tiny kid. I’m genuinely excited (and maybe a little nervous) to host a lively group of energetic, sweaty kids, shoot some hoops, and indulge in a caramel cake that’s definitely going to be the star of the party.

Here’s hoping your weekend is just as sweet, whether it’s packed with action or wrapped in cozy calm. Before you dive in, I’ve gathered some delightful and curious links from around the web to spark a little joy and inspiration.

Refreshing and Fun Finds

  • Easy Strawberry Lemonade Recipe: Nothing says summer like a refreshing glass of strawberry lemonade. Perfect for sipping while lounging or hosting friends.
  • How to Sneeze Quietly: I immediately sent this tip to my dad — because who wants to disturb the peace with a thunderous sneeze?
  • Brooklinen Sale: If you haven’t tried Brooklinen yet, now’s the time. They’re offering 25% off sitewide, and honestly, their sheets and pillows are the reason I sleep so soundly at night.
  • Tiny Lakeside Living: Have you seen that stunning 400-square-foot German lakeside house? It’s a beautiful example of minimalist living with maximum charm.
  • Weekend Naps, According to My Son: We’ve been exchanging emails about the art of weekend napping, and it’s a bonding moment that makes me smile every time.
  • Parisian Street Style: Spotted seven standout looks and a seriously cool haircut in Paris recently — all captured in a fun roundup over at Big Salad.
  • Tomato Season Countdown: I’m counting the days until tomato season begins — if you’re a fan too, here’s a thoughtful read from The New York Times.
  • Instant Cure for Restless Legs: A quick tip I picked up from Haley that’s been surprisingly effective on restless nights.

Thoughtful Moments and Laughs

  • Life Advice to My 16-Year-Old Self: Some wisdom that resonated with me: “There will come a time when you’ll crave your sister’s presence,” and “Just because someone is an adult doesn’t mean they’re right.” Food for thought for all ages.
  • Astronaut Don Pettit’s Photos: The incredible beauty of Earth from space captured by astronaut Don Pettit is nothing short of breathtaking — The New York Times has the best gallery.
  • Unsung Heroes of Motherhood: Like Julie Owens, who braved a mid-January indoor water park in a tankini, survived nearly swallowing a wet Band-Aid, and soldiered on with a dry heave or three. Motherhood is heroic, hilarious, and hard.
  • Upcoming Event: Next Tuesday, I’m thrilled to be chatting live with my friend Adam Roberts in Brooklyn about his debut novel Food Person, a hilarious take on a cookbook ghostwriter’s life. If you’re nearby, come say hi!

From Readers with Love

Here are a couple of wonderful moments shared by readers recently:

  • Jess from Oxford: “Today’s glimmer was spotting a picnic setup in a shop window with a French bulldog lounging on the blanket. A double take confirmed the dog was real — and clearly enjoying its role in the scene. Pure heaven.”
  • Kate on Motherhood Poetry: She shared a passage from Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng that captures the bittersweet evolution of mother-child closeness so beautifully it’s almost heartbreaking. The way physical closeness shifts as kids grow up — fleeting touches and rare embraces become all the more precious.

A Gentle Reminder

In the rush of life, weekends like this remind us to pause, enjoy the small things, and recharge however feels right. Whether that’s wild birthday parties or quiet moments with a good book, a nap, or a walk outside, here’s to finding your kind of rest this weekend.

And if you pick up that strawberry lemonade recipe or browse some dreamy lakeside homes, I hope they bring a little extra sparkle to your days.
