Our Paris Getaway: A Joyful Recap of Friendship, Food, and Fashion

Last week, a close-knit group of us—just a bunch of women craving a break from the everyday juggle of work, parenting, and life’s relentless pace—escaped to Paris. The City of Light welcomed us with open arms, offering a perfect blend of charm, culture, and culinary delights. Here’s a glimpse into our trip, sprinkled with the moments that made it unforgettable.

Finding Home in the Heart of the 11th Arrondissement

Our Parisian adventure began with a fantastic Airbnb find in the 11th arrondissement, an area that charmed us immediately. Known for its neighborhood vibe and tucked-away streets, the 11th felt like the city’s best-kept secret—buzzing with cozy cafés, eclectic shops, and an unmistakably cool yet unpretentious spirit.

We booked a spacious five-bedroom flat—large enough for our group, with the option of adding more rooms if needed. Our apartment’s balcony even sported a cheeky sign that made us chuckle, a reminder that Parisian wit is alive and well.

Waking up in this lively yet intimate corner of Paris set the tone for our days: leisurely strolls, ample coffee stops, and delicate eclairs enjoyed with no rush. This was not a whirlwind tourist trip but a chance to soak in the city’s rhythm, savoring each moment.

A Culinary Highlight: Mokonuts

One meal stands out in particular—our lunch at Mokonuts, a tiny spot run by the husband-and-wife duo Moko Hirayama and Omar Koreitem. When we arrived, their young daughter was amusingly munching on a leg of lamb while schools were on strike, adding a delightful human touch to the experience.

The food itself was a revelation. Bursting with flavors that danced on the palate, the dish that won my heart was the pillowy gnocchi paired with fresh mussels—pure magic. The warm, intimate atmosphere and the exquisite cuisine made Mokonuts a highlight we won’t soon forget.

Friendship, Laughter, and a Game Night to Remember

Our group was even livelier with the addition of my honorary niece—my wedding flower girl—and her two friends from England. Their youthful energy brought fun and fresh perspectives, especially on the topic of college life.

One evening, we gathered for a raucous game of Celebrity, a game that kept us in stitches. It’s played in rounds: first, any kind of verbal clues; then just one word; next, charades; and for our twist, charades under a throw blanket. Imagining grown adults trying to mime while hidden beneath a blanket still cracks me up.

These moments underscored the essence of the trip—not just the city’s wonders but the joy of deepening friendships and sharing laughter.

The Ever-Chic Parisian Street Style

As promised, I kept an eye on Parisian street style—and wow, the sartorial consistency is remarkable. The dominant theme? Head-to-toe black, every day. Picture this: black scarf, black jacket, black shirt, black jeans, black socks, black shoes. It’s like a sleek uniform, but with unmistakable French flair.

What makes these monochrome outfits pop are the subtle details: soft leather jackets that drape just so, sheer tights adorned with tiny hearts or dots, chunky lug-sole boots and polished loafers. Then there’s the sparkle of shiny red nail polish, a bold contrast to the all-black ensembles.

And, of course, scarves. Parisians layered them thick and thin, sometimes doubling up for an effortlessly chic look that screams “je ne sais quoi.” This was more than a fashion statement; it was a cultural signature.

Reflections on a Perfect Paris Break

This trip was a beautiful reminder of why Paris continues to captivate hearts worldwide—not only for its landmarks and cuisine but for the way it feels to wander its streets at your own pace, to savor moments of beauty in simple things, and to share those moments with good friends.

If there’s one takeaway, it’s this: let your travels be less about ticking boxes and more about soaking in the atmosphere, indulging in great food, and creating laughter-filled memories.

Thank you, Paris, for your magic—and thank you to my friends, new and old, for making this trip so special. If you have any questions about our adventures or want tips on exploring the 11th arrondissement, just ask. Until next time, au revoir!
