What’s on your weekend radar? Around here, things are winding down after a hectic week—my laptop gave up the ghost mid-email (classic timing), and everything’s been a bit scrambled since. But now, the weekend is stretching ahead, and I’m craving some slow moments: sunshine, a bench, a book, maybe even a nap. Freddie and I are heading to volunteer at a soup kitchen tomorrow morning, and then we’ll probably spend the afternoon soaking up the quiet.
If you’re gearing up for some rest, adventure, or a bit of both, here are a few delightful things I’ve been reading, watching, and bookmarking this week…
🎬 A New Movie to Bookmark
Materialists just dropped a trailer, and it looks like a smart and snappy romantic satire—Dakota Johnson plays a high-end matchmaker (of course she does), and the vibe feels sharp, funny, and full of messy glamor. Definitely one for a cozy night in.
🛍️ Style Break: A Dress That Goes Everywhere
Banana Republic is offering 40% off sitewide at the moment. This travel-perfect dress caught my eye—it’s one of those pieces that feels equally right at brunch, a museum, or the airport.
📚 Bookselling With Heart
An indie bookseller shared a moving slice of life this week:
“Little old Southern ladies come in looking for books to help them better understand their kids or grandkids who are transitioning and/or gender-nonconforming… People want to connect with their autistic kids, their chronically ill siblings, their immigrant neighbors. I see it every day. Every day.”
It’s a quiet reminder of how books can build bridges and how people are reaching for each other—one title at a time.
🕶️ Sunglasses, but Make It Fashion
One of my favorite spring styling tricks right now? Carrying your sunglasses not on your face, but tucked into your shirt collar or on a chain like a necklace. Effortless and so cool.
📖 What They’re Reading at the White Lotus
A fun deep dive into what the White Lotus characters are reading this season—and what their book choices subtly reveal. (Spoiler: one character is scrolling Instagram instead of reading, and somehow that says everything.)
🥪 Craving: A Tuna Melt With Chips
This NYT recipe is calling my name. Crispy bread, melty cheese, and salty potato chips tucked right inside the sandwich. Peak comfort food.

👕 Style Crush: Youngna Park
I’m newly obsessed with Youngna Park’s fashion sense—patterned shirts, clean lines, and this effortlessly creative energy. The kind of wardrobe that makes you want to wear color again.
🏡 A Tiny Studio With Big Charm
This 275-square-foot Manhattan apartment is like a love letter to rustic French countryside style. It’s tiny but absolutely dreamy—and a great reminder that you don’t need tons of space to create a home that feels like you.
🗺️ Design Delight: Swiss Passports
Leave it to Switzerland to create the sleekest, most beautiful passport ever. Clean, bold, and almost architectural in its design—it’s oddly satisfying to look at.
🌸 Cherry Blossoms, Tracked
Need a good excuse for a walk? This cherry blossom tracker shows when blooms are peaking near you. Nothing like a little pink petal magic to lift your spirits.
🚨 On a Serious Note: HANDS OFF 2025
Donald Trump and Elon Musk are quietly (and not-so-quietly) reaching into every corner of our public lives. From libraries and classrooms to our own bodies and freedoms, the pressure is real. That’s why next Saturday, April 5th, people across the country are marching under one message: HANDS OFF.
Libraries. Schools. Public lands. Clean air. Immigrant rights. Social Security. Free speech. All of it. If you feel like yelling enough already, find your closest event at handsoff2025.com. I’ll be at the NYC march—come say hi.
💬 Two Reader Gems That Made Me Smile:
From Maïa, on our preteen advice post:
“Joanna, I just realized that you (and your team and this community) are ‘reparenting’ me, as we say in therapy… It’s so reassuring to see how you parent your teens (and yourself) and how you parent us at the same time, when sharing this kind of post! 🧡”
And from Lauren O., on Kate Lindello’s week of outfits:
“I’m getting major Sharon-Horgan’s-next-level-prints-in-Catastrophe vibes – the color, the iconic pattern play!”
Wishing you a gentle weekend full of light, laughter, and maybe a sandwich or two. And to everyone celebrating: Eid Mubarak 💛
Let me know what’s on your mind or in your plans. I’d love to hear.
